Many thanks to Jane Ridgway for the report

Sunday saw the U14 girls play back to back games in the Essex league at Bishops Stortford college in their new look numbered ladies kit.

The squad this week were Lucy Leel (C), Courtney Ferns, Emely Taylor, Saskia Murphy, Imogen Murphy, Anika Mayor (GK), Zaynab Dar, Isabella Zurawska, Jessie Brown, Jasmine Wadsworth, Lara Chick,

First up was a game against Saffron Walden who deployed a kicking back and exploited their extra outfield player from the off, pushing high and pressing the girls into their half. Top notch defending from the girls and acrobatics from Anika in goal dealt with the Saffron Walden onslaught without fault. Crostyx however exploted this tactic with rapid breaks and runs from Ferns, Leel and the two Murphy girls (no relation) creating many situations in the Saffron D without success. Several short corners went unexploited with drag flicks wide of the mark. Finally the stalemate broke with Styx finding the net first. Saffron responded and leveled the score. And so it went on, Styx scored – Saffron leveled. Full time saw the girls take a win with a 4-3 score line.

The second game of the day was against local rivals Old Loughtonians. As ever, the Loughts squad started strongly and were soon one goal up following an extended goal line skirmish. Crostyx quickly equalized as they stepped up their play. The game played out with end to end action without either side gaining the upper hand.

Man of the match : Imogen Murphy

Both games saw good performances from all the girls especially for some new inexperienced players who did themselves proud.

Many thanks for Carla Preston coaching the girls this week with Neil Colton away taking his level 2 coaching qualifications. He passed!

Next match this Sunday at Lee Valley stadium pitch against Southgate. Push back 10.30am.
