My Christmas started here.
What a week! Firstly it wasn’t certain that we’d get a team together. Then, it was touch and go as to weather conditions allowing us to play. But, late on Friday night we had assembled the required number of players; two going by the noms-de-guerre; Some Bloke and New Dude. One could only hope they could play a bit. Joining these two characters was the Mens 4s very own James Bond known to us as Mike. Things were looking up. We even had a keeper, what joy!
The game was at Campion against Havering. Our team of has-beens, never-wozzers and exciting youth players set to work and it was all about the passing and movement of Crostyx. The most gratifying thing was to see all twelve players get involved and for some to play their best game ever (Stephen and Simon). One player’s sudden improvement probably affected him a little too much. Said player, Simon Preston, berated his son for not getting on the other end of three of his crosses in succession. His son replied “Dad, I’m still not used to you being able to hit the ball”.
It was probably only fitness levels that limited the score. I do hope that on the back of an 8-0 win the Legends walked away with a feeling of excitement as to the youthful talent on display and the youngsters an appreciation of the playing skills of those now involved in coaching them.
To all those who have played Mens 4s so far this season; thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your families.
